In collaboration with the Invasive Species Council of BC (ISCBC), a proud Invasives Canada Chapter, we offer a growing suite of self-directed eLearning courses. These courses are designed to equip industry professionals, outdoor enthusiasts, gardeners, pet owners, and aquarium hobbyists with the knowledge and tools they need to stop the spread of invasive species.

Courses are delivered through an easy-to-use, browser-based platform, hosted on the ISCBC website—no software downloads required. Each course features interactive modules, videos, and voiceover narration, allowing you to learn at your own pace.

Who it’s for?
Gardeners of all experience levels.

Overview:
Gardening is one of the primary pathways for the introduction and spread of invasive plants. The PlantWise course helps gardeners learn how to make informed planting choices that protect local ecosystems.

In this course, you’ll learn to:

  • Understand why invasive plants are sold at garden centers.
  • Identify common invasive plants available for sale.
  • Discover native and non-invasive alternatives for your garden.
  • Become part of the national PlantWise program and contribute to stopping the spread.

Pet owners, aquarium enthusiasts, water garden owners, and industry professionals.

Overview:
The pet and aquarium industry is a major pathway for introducing invasive species into Canada’s ecosystems. This pilot course teaches pet owners and professionals how to prevent the release of non-native species into the wild.

In this course, you’ll learn to:

  • Understand the environmental impacts of invasive pets and aquarium species.
  • Feel empowered to make responsible choices and help stop the spread.
  • Recognize best practices for pet care and responsible disposal.
