Who We Are

Invasives Canada is dedicated to safeguarding Canada’s ecosystems, communities, and economies from the growing threat of invasive species. As a national network of chapters, partners, and interested parties, we lead collaborative efforts to prevent and manage invasive species while promoting sustainable land and water management.

The National Threat of Invasive Species

Invasive species—plants, animals, and pathogens introduced outside of their natural range, primarily through human intervention. Once established, they spread rapidly due to the lack of natural checks and balances found in their native ecosystems. They disrupt ecological stability, harm biodiversity, and impose significant economic and cultural costs. By working together at local, provincial, and national levels, we can manage these impacts and protect Canada’s natural heritage.

Building Partnerships for Growth and Collective Action

Through strong chapter relationships, expanding collaborations, and strengthening existing partnerships, Invasives Canada is driving the management of invasive species, increasing awareness, and promoting responsible practices.

By working closely with Federal, Provincial, Territorial, Municipal, and Indigenous governments, as well as industry stakeholders and local communities, we promote sustainable practices to prevent the introduction and spread of invasive species. Our strategic plan focuses on engaging Indigenous communities, youth, and urban populations to ensure our efforts resonate with all Canadians.

At this pivotal moment, we are poised for significant growth in protecting Canada’s ecosystems, economy, and communities. Together, with renewed energy and commitment, we can create a future where people take action to safeguard our diverse natural environments and shared resources.

Supporting Canada’s 2030 Nature Strategy and United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

Invasives Canada actively supports the Canadian Government’s efforts to halt and reverse biodiversity loss, specifically through its work aligned with Target 6: Invasive Alien Species under Canada’s 2030 Nature Strategy.

We work in harmony with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 14 (Life Below Water) and Goal 15 (Life on Land.

This land and waters

We acknowledge the traditional stewards of this land we cherish and on which we live and work to sustain. We respect and acknowledge the First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples of Canada as the Keepers of these territories. We pay respects to their Elders, past and present. We recognize the importance of sustainable practices in our work. Our strategic direction includes advocating for stronger practices that support sustainable land and water management.
